FREEHOLD, N.Y. – Carlsen Gallery of Freehold, Greene County, New York announces a most important auction at their gallery, to be held on Sunday, Oct 4 at 10:30am EST. This auction includes items to be sold for the benefit of both the Georgi Museum, of Salem, New York; and Hyde Hall, a National Historic landmark, near Cooperstown, New York. The Georgi was founded at the bequest of Jessie Georgi and her late husband, wealthy financiers best known for implementing electricity to the streets of Paris. Notable items from the Georgi Museum include 17th, 18th and 19th-century Continental furniture, as well as a fine selection of antique Persian carpets.
Hyde Hall has consigned many exceptional items from the bequest of Asheton Langdon & Douglas Kent of Bedford, New York. Mr. Langdon was a well-known Broadway set designer and interior decorator. This lifelong collection includes an oil painting by Jean Baptiste-Camille Corot (shown above), which is pictured and listed in the catalogue raisonne by Alfred Robaut, 1905.
Other art includes works by Marco Ricci, John Downman, Henri Harpignies, Giacomo Guardi, A. Vickers and James Stark. Many Grand Tour items, mirrors and exceptional accessories, complete the offering to be sold on behalf of the general fund of Hyde Hall.
Additional items from private sources include estate jewelry and gold coins, including a 3.1 carat diamond solitaire. A two-part dining table from the workshop of Duncan Phyfe has Ginsberg & Levy provenance. A fabulous Art Nouveau figural table lamp is titled “Vesta.”
