Costa Rican currency adds more than face value to Doyle’s Sept. 13 sale
NEW YORK – Doyle’s auction Coins, Stamps, Bank Notes, Sports Collectibles & Medals, scheduled for Tuesday, September 13 at 10 am Eastern time will showcase a wide selection of American and world rarities from prominent collections and distinguished estates in the New York area and other regions of the country. The fascinating offerings will appeal to seasoned buyers and new collectors alike. Absentee and Internet live bidding will be available through LiveAuctioneers.
The sale lineup features several attractive stamp collections and a generous selection of group coin, currency and sports collectibles. Within the United States coins there is a 1793 Chain cent, numerous type coins or groups, and a strong selection of Morgan dollars replete with Carson City examples, as well as other better dates and some selective quantity lots. Also of note is a selection of gold medals awarded by the Massachusetts Horticultural Society for the exhibition of Odontoglossums.
A special section of the auction is devoted to the Kop family collection of Costa Rican coins and bank notes. This remarkable and extensive collection comprises more than 100 lots of rarities from the Central American country, including one of the few known 1917 50 centavos silver, along with numerous gold coins. The currency section offers First Issues and a wonderful offering of seldom-seen notes.
