CINCINNATI – Cowan’s Fine Silver: Discovery Auction on Jan. 11 features a rich assortment of sterling silver and coin silver from well-known makers including Tiffany & Co., Gorham, Kirk-Stieff and Duhme & Co. Absentee and Internet live bidding is available through LiveAuctioneers.

Tiffany & Co. pieces are topped by a set of 12 sterling silver champagne flutes from the 1920s.  Each flute is marked, monogrammed and stands 7¾ inches high.

Early Tiffany sterling pieces include a cup and saucer by J.C. Moore (below) having an engraved cartouche reading “Stephen Whitney / From His / Godmother / June 11th 1868.”

Match safe collectors have a dozen examples from the collection of David and Holiday Winfield. Several are by William B. Kerr & Co., Newark, N.J., including an Art Nouveau example that depicts a woman in ocean waves with a bird flying overhead. This match safe is monogrammed “GAM” to the reverse.
