Cowan’s to hold inaugural jewelry auction Mar. 29

CINCINNATI – Cowan’s Auctions Inc.’s inaugural Fine Jewelry and Timepieces Auction will take place on Thursday, March 29, beginning at 10 a.m. Eastern. The 300-lot sale will be held at Cowan’s Auctions salesroom and will feature a collection of signed and unsigned jewelry, timepieces, handbags and other couture.
LiveAuctioneers.com will provide Internet live bidding.
In addition to the sale, two complementary preview events will be held on March 28. Cowan’s has invited staff from Krombholz Jewelers, Cincinnati, to be available from noon until 5 p.m. for private consultations concerning repair, restoration or custom design inquiries regarding items in the auction. That evening, Cowan’s will be hosting a champagne reception from 5-8 p.m. Guests will have the opportunity to preview the collection in the upcoming auction, while enjoying champagne and light refreshments. Interested parties need to RSVP to the champagne reception at jewelry@cowans.com or 513-871-1670 ext. 17, but may attend the Krombholz Jewelers preview without reservations.
A variety of jewelry will also be featured in the sale. An emerald-cut natural fancy yellow diamond ring is estimated at $25,000-$45,000. A pair of natural alexandrite and diamond earrings is expected to bring $35,000-$55,000. A vintage Cartier 18-karat and enamel cigar ring is estimated at $1,500-$2,000.
The auction will also feature a variety of timepieces. A Patek Philippe Calatrava with 18-karat gold mesh band is available and estimated at $5,000-$7,000. A vintage diamond set pocket watch is estimated at $2,500-$5,000 and a Piaget decorated face timepiece with fob is expected to fetch $800-$1,000.
A number of handbags, both vintage and modern, will also be offered in the sale. A vintage Lalique handbag is expected to sell for $800-$1,000. An Alexander McQueen Flora handbag is estimated at $800-$1,200 and a Karl Lagerfeld Couture fan handbag is estimated at $800-$1,000.
“We have a great range of items for every collector’s price point and taste,” said Tara Eggleston-Johnston, director, fine jewelry and timepieces, “My goal was to appeal to every collector, no matter the price point, and I believe this sale accomplishes that.”
