BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. – Dale Chihuly’s blown glass and forged steel red and gold leaf chandelier, 1997, is expected to sell for $60,000 in Heritage Auctions’ 20th & 21st Century Design Auction on Tuesday, May 17. The auction’s special selection spans woodworking, clothing design and printmaking.

Absentee and Internet live bidding will be available through LiveAuctioneers.com.

“This expansive auction features the work of some of the most important and collected artists, designers and makers of the 20th century,” said Katie Nartonis, consignment director, 20th + 21st Century Design. “These works offer a timeline from the early years of Art Deco to the contemporary works. The sale offers in effect a kind of design timeline from the early years of Art Deco to contemporary masterworks.”

The auction’s important offering of furniture and woodworking arts, includes a set of eight dining chairs (below), 1994, (est. $30,000-$50,000) and a monumental free-form trestle table with notch detail, 1992, by Sam Maloof (est. $30,000-$50,000). A California games table, 1974, made with various inlaid hardwoods appears at auction directly from the estate of Sam Maloof’s daughter, Marilouise Maloof (est. $12,000-$18,000). A selection of Maloof furniture wouldn’t be complete without an iconic rocking chair and his YPO Rocking Chair was made in 1970 of California walnut and leather (est. $15,000-$25,000).
