NEW YORK – Capsule Auctions presents Deco and Design: Early 20th Century, a curated auction of ceramics, glass, silver, furniture and objets decoratifs from New York and New England collections, including that of Seymour Stein. The sale takes place Thursday, February 24 at 12:30 pm Eastern time. Absentee and Internet live bidding will be available through LiveAuctioneers.

Capsule Auctions continues to sell choice pieces from the renowned collection of Sire Records co-founder and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee Seymour Stein. He scoured American and European auctions to find the best of the best in the realms of ceramics, furniture, paintings and drawings. Highlights from his collection include works by celebrated artists and designers such as Edgar Brandt, Oscar Bach, Pierre Chareau, Jean Mayodon, Gio Ponti and Rene Lalique, as well as pieces from Grueby and Tiffany Studios.

Featured in this sale is a pair of cobra andirons by Edgar Brandt, estimated at $30,000-$50,000. Brandt was a well known French ironworker who was active in the first half of the 20th century. He was known for incorporating his love of nature into his pieces, which is evident in this set of andirons.

Another notable work in the collection is a Sevres porcelain vase with designs of Olympic athletes. The vase on offer was hand-painted by Gaston Goor, who worked in collaboration with the legendary French porcelain-maker. Goor was a French artist known for his classical studies of the male form.

Additional highlights of this sale are two Jean Mayodon stoneware lidded vases. One features an underwater theme and the other a hunting theme. Mayodon was one of the principal French Art Deco ceramicists, known for his brightly colored and painterly figures, animals and mythological creatures. Both vases are undated, stand 26in tall, and carry identical estimates of $5,000-$8,000.
