Fine art, stoneware stand out in Jenack auction Nov. 11

CHESTER, N.Y. – Decorated stoneware, Lladro figures and fine art are among the top items at William Jenack Estate Appraisers and Auctioneers’ sale on Sunday, Nov. 11. Internet live bidding will be available through LiveAuctioneers.com. The 416-lot auction will begin at 11 a.m. EST.

The third of Jenack’s fall sales will also include Daum Nancy, bakelite, watches, Chinese art and porcelain, and furniture.

The Lladro figures are from a very large private collection. Many are among the largest figures made by the company and retired. Figures to be sold include “Intermezzo”, “Studying in the Park”, “Valencians Group”, “Sisters with Flowers” and many other favorites.

The dominate feature of the auction will be a large collection of salt glaze stoneware including John Cavanagh Wholesale & Retail Liquor Merchant, Brooklyn, N.Y. jug with cobalt decoration; Ottman Bros & Co, Ft. Edward, N.Y. jug; S.D. Kellogg, Whately 2- gallon jug with cobalt hat decoration; Smith & Day Manufacturers, Norwalk, Conn., jug; Troy, N.Y., 3-gallon jug with cobalt decoration; John Burger, Rochester, N.Y., jug. There are more than 60 lots included in the sale, most in impeccable condition.

In the furniture genre there will be a mix of period and contemporary pieces. Among them will be a few lots of Anglo-Indian including a handsome carved rosewood bookcase on chest with starburst carved doors, a polished chintz floral sofa in like-new condition, a pair of custom armchairs, a Pennsylvania House Queen Anne-style highboy, a Chippendale revival dining table and chairs, a Regency-style inlaid console table, a Kittinger Hepplewhite-style single drawer stand, a Kittinger pencil-post tester bed and several other lots of antique and vintage furniture and accessories.

There will be several lots of antique corkscrews including an American stag-horn handled example with Gorham sterling mounts, an English bone-handled corkscrew with brush, and a Thomason Dowler Patent-style bone corkscrew with brush.

In the category of jewelry and watches we will be offering a Patek Phillipe platinum 18-jewel dress pocket watch with original platinum and pearl chain, a Swiss 14K 17-jewel key-form watch, and a Patek Phillipe stainless steel and gold dress pocket watch.

Bakelite is again making an appearance at the gallery from a large private collection. Choice examples are a carved log with cherries pin, a partridge in a pear tree, a carved red bakelite pin, an African head pin with headdress, bangles and necklaces.

Artwork will include an oil on board titled The Souk by Vincent G. Stiepevich, which will will have an estimate of $7,000-10,000; an oil on canvas by David Burliuk with horse subject, estimate of $4,000-5,000; an oil on canvas by George Arnold titled Virginia Water, Near London, an oil on canvas by Vernet Bonfort, sunflowers, estimate of $500-800; with approximately 60 more lots of artwork spanning the 18th through 20th centuries.

The sale will be rounded out by Chinese art and ceramic, carpets, bronzes, lamps, chandeliers, porcelain, pottery and other decorative accessories.
