NEW YORK – An exquisite pair of Murano Intarsio glass vases, two French sterling silver tea sets by Puiforcat and Tetard Freres and several extensive sterling silver flatware sets top the list of fine home furnishings in a Jasper 52 online auction Jan. 29 titled Table to Ceiling: Decorative Art and Silver. Bid absentee or live online through LiveAuctioneers.

Italian designer Ercole Barovier maintained the direction of his family’s glass company, Barovier & Toso, for more than four decades of the mid-20th century. He joined the company in 1919 at the age of 30 and found success designing vases in the mosaic technique. Offered in the auction is a pair of 8½-inch-tall Intarsio vases (above) valued at $12,000-$14,000. Both have a polished base with inverted round pontil.

The auction catalog contains two dozen additional lots of Italian Murano glass.

The sterling silver lots are equally impressive. An elegant flatware service for 24 by Emile Puiforcat, the premier French silversmith, dates to the 1890s. Contained in a custom-made four-tier storage set, all 178 pieces are monogram-free. Direct from the South of France, this amazing set (below) has a $21,000-$25,000 estimate.

Direct from Paris is a privately commissioned antique five-piece sterling silver tea set by Tetard Freres, another of France’s premier silversmiths. In like-new condition, this Louis XVI pattern tea set reflects traditional 19th-century elegance (est. $11,000-$13,000).

Edmond Tetard took over the silversmith business of the renowned master silversmith Émile Hugo in 1880. He was a talented craftsman and specialized in creating beautiful sets of flatware and other tableware such as coffee and tea sets, decorative trays and urns. He soon became a favorite of the French elite due to the outstanding quality and creativity of his works of art. All his pieces featured elegant proportions and were finely wrought, many embellished with decorative details and hand engraving. He exhibited at the Exposition Universelle in Paris in 1889 where he was awarded a gold medal for his outstanding designs and fine quality silverware, much of which was influenced by Rococo style. Tetard’s pieces were highly sought after by a discerning clientele and his fame spread across European aristocracy.

Also noteworthy is a pair of vintage Mexican silver swan-form bowls by Tane, which dates to the 1970s (est. $900-$1,100).
