Designer furniture, fine art to heat up Capo auction June 25

NEW YORK – Capo Auction Fine Art and Antiques in Long Island City welcomes the summer with their first auction of the season on Saturday, June 25. This month’s sale bolsters Capo’s reputation for specializing in the mid-century modern arena, featuring some unique pieces. An exceptional selection of silver, decorative items and fine art also merit attention this month.

Mid-century modern and contemporary furniture being offered includes an Art Deco desk of asymmetrical design with a shagreen writing surface and various hidden drawers and fitted compartments (above). Estimated at $2,000-$3,000, the desk is 43 inches wide by 29 inches deep and 36 inches high.
A Cassina 637 Utrecht armchair (below) designed by Gerrit Thomas Rietveld (Dutch, 1888-1964) having red fabric upholstery with off-white stitching is estimated at $800-$1,200.

A pair of armchairs by Gigi Radice for Renzo Minotti , circa 1958, has a $2,200-$2,600 estimate, and a Marcel Breuer Wassily Chair in brown and white pony hide upholstery is expected make $400-$600.
In the contemporary art arena Capo is presenting a Leopoldo Richte (German/Columbian, 1896-1984) work titled Columbian Village, which is composed of nine ceramic tiles mounted on wood (below). Signed “LR,” the work measures 41 by 30 inches overall. It is estimated at $7,000-$9,000. A signed Dominique Zinkpe (Beninese, b. 1969) untitled oil on canvas, canvas size 23 1/2 x 31 1/3 inches, frame size 24 1/2 x 32 1/2 inches, has an estimate of $2,500-$4,500.

Silver and decorative items will include an English silver coffee and tea service, London, 1841, consisting of a coffeepot, teapot, milk jug and open sugar. The set is estimated at $2,000-2,500. A 25-inch-tall Shipibo Indian pottery vase having two shaped faces on its neck and geometric decoration is estimated at $400-$600.
The jewelry highlight of the sale is a Mughal pearl and gemstone necklace with a high-carat gold pendant adorned with of ruby, emerald, chrysoberyl, pearl, diamond and blue and yellow sapphires (below).
