MONROVIA, Calif. – A bounty of antique, retro, costume and designer jewelry sure to delight any taste and fill any gift requirement this holiday season will be on display at John Moran Auctioneers on Dec. 6. The auction features a lineup of excellent examples from leading design houses including Cartier and Van Cleef & Arpels. Moran’s fine jewelry auction will begin at noon Pacific and will be followed by a decorative art session as well as a selection of important Chinese objects. Absentee and Internet live bidding will be available through LiveAuctioneers.com.
One of the many catalog highlights is a 1970s shell-form bracelet by Cartier (above). The oversize shell-shaped links rendered in 18K yellow gold offer a prime example of the classic style of Cartier design. Another fine example is a sapphire and diamond ring created by noted Italian design house Buccellati. The familiar design of an oval sapphire with a diamond surround is given a slight twist by the addition of a raised openwork setting and boasts a natural unheated Ceylon sapphire as its centerpiece. The classic ring (below) is expected to sell in the range of $12,000-$15,000 at auction.
Other pieces, including a trendy carnelian and rose gold “Sweet Alhambra” necklace from Van Cleef & Arpels ($500-700), a diamond “Maillon Panthere” necklace by Cartier ($3000-$5000), and a sterling silver and gold bracelet by Gucci ($300-$500) are sure to attract attention from buyers looking for signed pieces to add to their collection.
Collectors of antique jewels need look no further than the selection of adornments included in Moran’s auction. Principle among them is an antique Swiss gemstone and Geneva enamel bracelet (below) dating to circa 1830. This delightful example, valued to sell in the $8,000-$12,000 range, depicts young women dressed in regional costume with their respective cantons noted on the reverse.
For watch enthusiasts, Moran’s is offering an incredible A Le Coultre gold minute repeater chronograph pocket watch at auction. Boasting both a triple calendar and moon-phase movement, the watch is valued at $18,000-$24,000.
