BOSTON – RR Auction‘s December Fine Autographs and Artifacts sale, scheduled for Wednesday, December 7, brings more than 1,000 items to the auction block. A special animation section features production cels from a number of Disney classics, plus concept paintings by legendary artists Mary Blair and Eyvind Earle. View the fully illustrated catalog on LiveAuctioneers.

Highlights include a Mary Blair concept painting of Alice and the Cheshire Cat from Alice in Wonderland. The original artwork shows the surprised Alice climbing the Cheshire Cat’s tree on a moonlit night in the Tulgey Wood; the purple cat grins menacingly while holding his head above his body. Stunningly rendered in shades of purple, blue and black, the scene is a superb example of Blair’s artistic style — the dark composition aptly captures the Cheshire Cat’s mischievous nature and Alice’s astonishment at seeing him. The stunning, well-composed panoramic painting featuring Blair’s stylish interpretation of two of Disney’s most desirable characters has an estimate of $15,000-$20,000.
