NEW YORK – Jasper52 delves into ancient history this weekend with three online-only auctions featuring rarely encountered antiquities. Standouts in the auction catalogs are works of art, jewelry and coins, all sourced from long-standing collections. Absentee bidding is available through LiveAuctioneers.

Jasper52’s exclusive Antiquities and Ancient Art Auction on Saturday, Nov. 4, features ancient artifacts from the Mediterranean, the Near East and Europe. The selection consists of sculptures, amulets, figures, idols and jewelry reflecting the art and cultures of the ancient world.

A second-century Roman marble bust of a lady (above) from the is from a private UK collection and was acquired on the London Art market in the 1980s. It is estimated to sell for $1,500-$3,000 at Saturday’s Jasper52 auction.

A small Byzantine gold cross that is adorned with red garnet cabochon (below) dates to the 11th or 12th century. The 1½-inch-tall cross is formed by hollow gold spheres and has a $1,400-$2,500 estimate.

Viking jewelry is in vogue and the gold ring in the auction is top of the line. This solid gold ring from the 11th century is decorated on the outside with two lines of punched triangular marks, each with three raised dots, separated by a gold band. Held in two European and UK private collections since the 1970s, the ring is expected to bring $2,200-$4,000.

Saturday’s Jasper52 Antiquities and Ancient Art Auction will begin at 2 p.m. Eastern time.

More Viking jewelry and artifacts are found in a Jasper52 auction of antiquities on Sunday, Nov. 5, starting at 7 p.m. Eastern.

Among the anticipated top lots is a Viking warrior’s neck torc, a large rigid or stiff neck ring of metal. The example offered in the auction is bronze and in excellent condition (est. $700-$1,100.)

A small Indus Valley Civilization terra-cotta bull figurine is one of the oldest artifacts in the auction, 2500-1500 B.C. This superb figure is in excellent condition, with possible restored painting. It has a $1,500-$2,500 estimate.

Also on Sunday, Nov. 5, Jasper52 will conduct an auction of ancient coins – more than 100 lots. Among the superb coins in this sale is a Greek Tetradrachm of Alexander II the Great. Zeus, seated on a throne, is on the reverse side of the silver coin. It dates to the fourth century B.C. and has a $450-$550 estimate.
