Doyle tenders rare coins, bank notes and stamps, June 20

NEW YORK – Doyle‘s auction of Coins, Bank Notes, Stamps & Collectibles, scheduled for Tuesday, June 20 and starting at 10 am Eastern time, will showcase U.S. and World numismatic and philatelic rarities from collections in the New York area and other regions of the country. Absentee and Internet live bidding will be available through LiveAuctioneers.

The sale commences with an interesting group of United States bank notes, highlighted by a 1901 $10 Bison STAR note Fr. 122, estimated at $3,000-$4,000; a 1891 $20 Silver Certificate Fr. 322, estimated at $2,000-$3,000; and the Br. Guiana 1830 Second Joe Series issues.

A strong section of graded United States gold issues features a 1909-O Key Date $5 Indian Head graded AU53, estimated at $10,000-$15,000; a 1908 No Motto $20 St. Gaudens graded Mint State 65, estimated at $2,250-$2,500; a 1925 St. Gaudens MS 65; a 1926 $10 Indian Head MS 64 and other graded items. Among the raw coins there is an 1853 half dime with arrows, an 1867-S half dollar, a nice 1850 seated dollar and a lightly circulated 1893-S Morgan dollar that has an estimate of $4,000-$5,000.

The foreign section features strong China-related choices, such as a 1988 Five Ounce Gold Dragon, estimated at $8,000-$10,000; a lot of five 1988 Twelve Ounce Silver Dragon KM # 195, estimated at $6,000-$8,000; a lot of five 1985 One Ounce Pandas; a Canada 1985 One Ounce Maple leaf; a lot of 20 Switzerland 1930 20 Francs; and numerous other scarcer issues, such as a Poland 1982 10,000 Zlotych papal visit in gold Y #140, which carries an estimate of $3,000-$5,000, and a Portugal 1988 100 Escudos Platinum KM 642c.

The postage stamp section is highlighted by an interesting lot of United States postal history correspondence, estimated at $1,000-$1,500; an appealing Austrian collection; a compelling specialized German offering with an estimate of $1,500-$2,000, and a seldom-offered collection of Republic of China – Taiwan Province Overprinted on Japanese Issues Chan TP 4-12 that is estimated at $20,000-$30,000.

Rounding out the auction are groups of collectible toy soldiers, mechanical banks, a few medals and a group of stock certificates issued for the 1917 inaugural offering of the Lincoln Motor Company.
