NEW YORK – A collection of 44 mid-20th century wristwatches by many of the top names in the business will be sold to the highest bidders in a Jasper52 auction on July 31. Live bidding will begin at 3 p.m. Eastern.
Absentee and Internet live bidding will be available exclusively through LiveAuctioneers.com. Bidding on all lots starts at $1.
The top standout in the catalog is a 1980 Rolex Oyster Perpetual with date (above) that retains its original leather strap and box. Having a solid 14K yellow gold case, the Model 15037 is clean and runs perfectly. It is estimated at $3,000-$5,000 but will sell to the highest bidder regardless, as this is a no reserve auction.
Also in 14K solid gold is a Girard Perregaux Seahawk watch (below) from the 1960s, estimated at $650-$900. Girard Perregaux, one of the most revered names in Swiss watchmaking, traces its roots to the late 18th century.
Another fine timepiece to consider is an Omega Automatic two-tone watch (below) from the 1960s featuring a black dial and gold dauphine hands. It carries a $500-$800 estimate.
This vintage watch auction dials bidders back to an era when luxury approached mechanical perfection. Wristwatch technology from the 1930s to the 1960s was developed by Swiss, American and Japanese craftsmen. This competitive design market led treasured brands, such as Longines, Rolex, Bulova, Omega, Hamilton, Gruen, Elgin, Lecoultre, Movado and Tag Heuer, all of which are represented in this auction.
