Elliott tall case clock stands tall in Jenack’s April 19 auction

CHESTER, N.Y. – William Jenack Auctioneers will offer for sale on Sunday, April 19, an outstanding Elliott, London carved mahogany nine-tube tall case clock from a Sullivan County estate, measuring 8 feet 8 inches tall (estimate: $8,000-$12,000). The fine carved mahogany case is likely by New York cabinetmaker R.J. Horner & Co. and the nine tubes are each signed Harris & Harrington, 1901.

Also from this collection is a 58-inch French mahogany-case pinwheel regulator wall clock (estimate: $2,000-$3,000) and a vintage Ansonia “Florida” gilt metal eight-day clock with open escapement (estimate: $1,800-$2,500). The sale will feature more than 20 clocks from this Monticello, N.Y., (Sullivan County) estate.

Nineteenth century works of art include a Paul Falconer Poole (British 1807-1879) oil on canvas titled The Young Champion, which is consigned from an Albany, N.Y., estate. The canvas, which is signed and titled, measures 25 by 30 inches and carries an estimate of $3,000-$5,000. Other works offered include paintings, prints and sculptures by Moses Soyer, Raphael Soyer, Bessie Boris, Karl Eugene, Afonso Oliveria, Chaim Gross, Soren Emil Carlson, John Albert Seaford, Philip Reisman, Paul Branson, Alejandro Mario Yllanes and Bernard Buffet.

An exceptionally large bronze grouping Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse signed Mattie Berhang 1973 with a Roman Bronze Foundry, N.Y. mark from an edition of eight holds an estimate of $6,000-$8,000. Other highlights include a three-piece Gianni Versace design sofa (estimate $5,000-$8,000) and two armchairs (estimate $5,000-$8,000), and an alabaster chandelier (estimate $3,000-$5,000) completes this ensemble. A Federal carved and gilt mahogany framed mirror with eagle finial is estimated $1,000-$1,500.

The sale will feature more than 80 lots of G-scale electric garden trains and accessories. These trains are  in like-new condition. Two Keystone pressed steel sit-n-ride trains are also included (model nos. 6400 and 6800).

Collections of Chinese and Japanese works of art; American and Continental porcelain, art glass, bronzes; an antique Persian carpet,  9 by 11 feet 10 inches; and a pair of wrought-iron estate gates measuring 7 feet 6 inches by 12 feet will close out the sale.
