Ephemera, fine art starring in L & S Auctions event Jan. 19

WAPPINGERS FALLS, N.Y. – Lisa and Steve Fisch of L & S Auctions have been in the antique and collectible business since 1981, selling at shows, group shops, their own shops and on the Internet. On Saturday, Jan. 19, L & S Auctions will conduct their first auction through LiveAuctioneers. Bid absentee or live online through LiveAuctioneers.

Among the many paper items is an 1888 Album of Worlds Champions, which pictures trading cards of top athletes of the era. The cards were produced for Ginter & Allen, a tobacco products company in Richmond, Virginia. The colorfully illustrated album has a $1,500-$2,000 estimate.

Also featured is a rare set of 19 Chinese posters promoting health and hygiene, which were published in 1925 by the Council on Health Education, Shanghai (est. $2,500-$3,000.)

A portfolio of theater and ballet costume pochoirs, 21 hand-colored plates, by Georges Lepape (French, 1887-1971), circa 1910, has a $3,000$4,000 estimate.

Folk art in the auction is highlighted by a late 1800s “memory sculpture” based on a 13-inch graniteware coffeepot, which is covered with covered with an assortment of items such as cast-iron toys, doll parts and hardware (est. $500-$1,000).

Artists represented in the auction include Hugo Baruch, Walter Seaton, Alexander R. Katz, Henry Gillette, Johan H. Rosand, John Oswald Stewart and Donn Fischer, in addition to a Hudson River watercolor by Don Nice and nudes by Neal Boyle and Robert Kuester.

“We think we have a good eye that will make it possible for us to offer desirable items at reasonable prices. Have fun and good luck,” notes the Steve Fisch. Rich in ephemera, fine art and antiques, the 460-lot auction will begin at noon Eastern time on Saturday, Jan. 19.
