Estate of Army surgeon ready to lead Roland auction Feb. 4

NEW YORK – On Feb. 4, Roland Auctions NY will present a colossal single-day sale of over 1,000 lots. Featured in this sale are 500 lots from the Greenwich, Connecticut, estate of a former U.S. Army Combat Surgeon and Purple Heart recipient. These exceptional objects comprise several specialized collections including grand tour bronzes, Chinese antiques, mid-century modern furnishings, and fine art by 20th century modern masters. The offerings from this estate represent the first of several installments consisting of more than 2,000 items to be sold in subsequent monthly estate auctions. Absentee and Internet bidding will be available through LiveAuctioneers.

The additional 500 plus lots of fine and decorative arts in Saturday’s auction have been selected from choice estates throughout Manhattan and extending along the East Coast from Raleigh, North Carolina, to Manchester, Massachusetts.

Fine Art will have bidders vying for paintings, sculpture, prints, and photography not available in the marketplace for decades.

20th century modern and contemporary design has a stronger than usual representation with pieces by celebrated designers: Lalique France, Tiffany Studios NY, Roycroft, K. Springer, Bing & Grondahl and F. Mattson, to name a few.

Traditional furniture and antiques continue to regain market share with period specimens including 19th century American, Georgian, Louis Philippe, Eastlake and Art Deco.

Decorative Arts in this category include Continental marble and bronze sculptures alongside antique porcelain represented by manufacturers KPM, Dresden, Sevres, Rosenthal, Royal Doulton, Royal Copenhagen, Wedgwood, Rookwood, Gustavsberg, Hutschenreuter, P. Lecourtier and Meissen.

Chinese and Asian Art is represented by objects accomplished in ceramic, bronze, cloisonné enamel, plique-a-jour, hardstone and jade accompanied by a selection of lacquered furniture.
