European furniture, American art on offer at Crescent City, July 15-16
NEW ORLEANS – Crescent City’s two-day Important Summer Estates Auction, slated for Friday and Saturday, July 15 and 16, will be packed with nearly 900 lots of French, English and American furniture, original paintings by noted regional artists, French clocks, bronzes and porcelain. The sessions will start at 10 am Central time both days. Absentee and Internet live bidding will be available through LiveAuctioneers.
The selection of artworks will be led by Greenwood, a 1985 oil on panel by James Kendrick III (American, 1946-2013), estimated at $700-$900; and a 1978 embellished lithograph with collage by Robert Allen Nelson (American, 1925-2021), titled Cannonball Cadre and estimated at $300-$500.
Fine French furniture is featured prominently at nearly every Crescent City auction, and this one will be no exception. Some of the pieces up for bid include a circa-1800 French Louis XV-style carved mahogany double door armoire, estimated at $1,000-$2,000, and a 20th-century French Provincial carved beech monastery table that carries an identical estimate.
English and American furniture will cross the auction block as well, including a nine-piece satinwood dining room suite by Robert Irwin (American, 1919-1953), consisting of a table, six chairs, a sideboard and a vitrine, estimated at $800-$1,200; and an English carved mahogany circular tilt-top dining table, estimated at $600-$900. Also on offer is a 20th-century Russian ormolu mounted Egyptian Revival marble-top mahogany center table. Its estimate is $1,500-$2,500.
Clock choices will feature a late 19th-century French bronze and marble figural mantel clock, estimated at $600-$900; and a circa-1890 French bronze patinated spelter and marble figural mantel clock, estimated at $500-$900.
An 18th-century Continental School oil-on-canvas Portrait of a Young Man, unsigned and unframed, has a modest pre-sale estimate of $400-$800.
