NEW YORK – Making your living spaces better and more pleasant is a reliable recipe for happiness. Jasper52‘s upcoming Exquisite Decorative Arts will help you start cooking. Kicking off at 7 pm on April 21, the auction includes 345 lots of lighting, tableware, sculpture, and other decorative objects that will delight you and capture your attention. Absentee and Internet live bidding will be available through LiveAuctioneers.

Prime pieces include a Regency-style bronze of a crawling leopard, sculpted in France in the late 20th century by an unknown artist. The dynamically posed bronze, which appears to be sneaking up on its prey, boasts a gorgeous gold-colored patina and measures almost six inches high by 18 inches wide. It carries an estimate of $800-$1,000; wise bidders will pounce before it can slink away from their grasp.

Also on offer is an Art Nouveau-style garden sculpture, ideal for display as a wall console. It is estimated at $500-$600. Like the crawling leopard bronze, it, too, was created in France in the late 20th century by an artist whose name has gone unrecorded. That person portrayed the long-haired female figure with a pensive, almost dreamy expression on her face of the sort that encourages viewers to join her in her reverie. Made from cast iron, the sculpture has since acquired a rust patina. It measures 18 inches high by almost 10 inches wide.

Beer pitcher and ice bucket, estimated at $900-$1,100

Particularly worthy of note among the decorative arts lots is a circa 1905 beer pitcher with matching ice bucket, estimated at $900-$1,100. Fashioned from Flemish oak and liberally decorated with silver and floral designs, the pair evokes a festive, old world feel. The pitcher measures 11 inches high by seven inches wide and has an opening that is almost three inches in diameter, while the bucket stands just over nine inches tall and 10 inches wide and features an opening that is not quite seven inches across.
