BOCA RATON, Fla. – On Aug. 22, commencing at 4 p.m. Eastern Time, Carstens Galleries will present its mid-summer auction featuring antiques, fine and decorative art; and other premium-quality estate pieces. LiveAuctioneers.com will provide the Internet live bidding during the sale.
The auction will begin with 50 rare, vintage pocket watches from a private collection. Estimates on this varied grouping of timepieces range from $300 to $1,200 at the top end.
A star lot in the sale is a marble and mother-of-pearl desk with hand-painted drawers and doors, supported by a carved and dore base. A must-see is lot 551, a rare and exquisite carving of a mammoth tusk with carved dragon motifs. Two large and magnificent ivory carvings will be offered, as well. Yet another very interesting Asian item is lot 669 a Chinese wooden horse, gilded and richly decorated.
On the smaller side, a unique lithophane by KPM, music boxes and enamel jewelry boxes will delight connoiseurs of such works of art. Additionally, there will be a good selection of bronze sculptures, plus porcelains by Dresden, Royal Copenhagen and Lladro; and a ceramic plate with silver adornment by Gustav Sberg.
Other offerings include urns in bone, bronze, porcelain and stone; a slag table and floor lamps by Rainaud. The more than 400 lots offer an extensive choice Murano Art glass, candelabra and crystal vases; and several splendid chandeliers. The list of choice selections continues with Vienna bronzes and Old European and Latin-American paintings on canvas, wood and ceramic.
Closing lots include a complete collection of 120 sterling silver medals known collectively as ‘The Medallic History of the Jewish People.’ The collection is followed by several Rolex, Cartier, Patek Phillippe, Breitling, Philippe Charriol and Chopard wristwatches.
