LONDON – The Fame Bureau will conduct its eclectic fall auction on Nov. 27. The 155-lot auction contains a wide-ranging selection from the world of rock and popular culture. The sale will start at 6:30 p.m. GMT (10:30 a.m. Pacific). LiveAuctoneers.com will provide the Internet live bidding.
Highlights include the Monterey Stratocaster used by Jimi Hendrix for the best part of his set at the inaugural U.S. performance with his Experience at Monterey, the legendary first appearance of the group that had already taken London by storm. A collection of Hendrix stage clothing and artwork is also featured in the auction.
The Beatles also feature prominently with two rare master recordings, one of the Gerry G interviews unedited and so far unreleased as well as the Decca Sessions, to this day not officially released in fantastic studio safety master quality. There are also signed contracts, artwork, posters and a fully signed Please Please Me LP.
Michael Jackson has also a part to play. His stage-worn glove, his “Bad” belt, his AMA award and a Disc Award from Dick Clark add to the exciting lots offered from the King of Pop.
Paul McCartney’s played and recorded violin bass guitar is also one of the instruments on offer plus a Mick Jagger-played guitar and Eric Clapton, Elvis Presley and John Lennon guitars.
Andy Warhol artwork of Mick Jagger and Stevie Nicks’ Fleetwood Mac Rumours LP worn cover outfit, defines the variety of the auction.
Artwork from Roger Dean’s Yes Aftermath cover sits well with the photography section including Beatles photos by Robert Freeman, Mike McCartney, Patti Boyd, Jane Bown, Ethan Russell, Hoppy Hopkins and Phil Stern. Leo Fuchs captures Audrey Hepburn, and the photographs from Abbey Road studios defines the quality of the artists who have walked through those hallowed doors.
Merchandising and rare original artwork promoting groups of the era are also represented.
Three gumball machines are examples of the humor of the auction, representing the Monkeys, Wizard of Oz, and the Beatles for fans of rare merchandising.
