NEW YORK – Jasper52 will present a pantheon of superheroes in a two-day online auction of rare comic books on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 10-11. Fans of the Fantastic Four will have the opportunity to fill holes in their run of this landmark Marvel comic book on Day 2 as all 170 lots are devoted to “The Greatest Comic Magazine in the World.”  Bid absentee or live online exclusively through LiveAuctioneers.

Created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby and published by Marvel Comics, the Fantastic Four debuted in 1961. As the first superhero team, the Fantastic Four formed a cornerstone of the company Marvel’s 1960s rise from a small division of a publishing company to a pop-culture conglomerate.

Day 2 opens with Fantastic Four #3 (above), which depicts the heroes for the first time in costume. This comic book also reveals the secrets of the team’s skyscraper headquarters.

A fine+ copy of Fantastic Four #49 (below), the second of a three-part story, marks the second appearance of Galactus and Silver Surfer.

Fantastic Four #52, dated July 1966, introduces Black Panther, first superhero of African descent in mainstream American comics. The copy offered in the auction is graded VG+.

Day 1 of this no-reserve rare comic book auction consists of DC and Marvel superheroes and a broad range of Silver Age titles by Dell and Gold Key.

Featured is Marvel’s Incredible Hulk #181, which marks the first full appearance of Wolverine.

A noteworthy DC title in the auction is a Batman #122, which features the Dark Knight marrying Batwoman.

These are no-reserve auctions, which means the high bidder wins the lot, no matter how low the price.
