Fantastic team-ups mark comic book auction Dec. 20
NEW YORK – Superheroes team up in a no-reserve comic book auction that Jasper52 will conduct on Sunday, Dec. 20. Nearly 300 lots of vintage comic books will sell to the highest bidder, no matter the price. The first pairing featured in the auction comes in Green Lantern #76 co-starring Green Arrow, a fellow DC character, in a groundbreaking series dealing with various social and political issues in America. Bid absentee or live online exclusively through LiveAuctioneers.
The widely acclaimed Green Lantern/Green Arrow stories, which began in April 1970, continued for 46 issues. The dramatic cover art (above) on issue #76 is by Neal Adams, who teamed with Hal Jordan in writing the stories.
Marvel Comics had superheroes joining forces in a series titled What If … in which the #1 issue has Spider-Man teaming up with the Fantastic Four in February 1977 (below).
Another #1 issue offered in the auction is Marvel Comics’ Crazy, a title that debuted in February 1973 and ran only three issues. The odd satire on comic books featured Spider-Man, Captain America and other Marvel characters on the cover.
Eleven Batman titles are available in the sale including Batman #251, which features the Joker prominently on the cover by Neal Adams.
Batman appears again on the 400th issue of Detective Comics, where the Caped Crusader debuted in March 1937. The 15-cent Silver Age title in fine condition marks the first appearance of Man-Bat.
The Jasper52 no-reserve online auction of comic books will begin Sunday, Dec. 20, at 6 p.m. Eastern time.
