Fine Estate Inc. brings spectacular treasures to auction Oct. 27

SAN RAFAEL, Calif. – Fine Estate Inc. is offering another fascinating selection of fine art and antiques to the auction block this month. On Sunday, Oct. 27, they will be offering Asian art including collections of tansu and blue and white porcelain, designer furniture, fine art and silver including a spectacular centerpiece bowl from Tiffany and Co. Absentee and live bidding is available through LiveAuctioneers.

Eugene Soligny was born in Paris and studied with Léonard Morel-Ladeuil before emigrating to the U.S. in 1856. By 1859 he was working for Tiffany & Co. He is best known for his repoussé and chasing work for Tiffany & Co. He is the only Tiffany Silversmith to have the honor of his initials appearing on some of his creations. Created in the mid-1870s, the bowl (above), which exhibits Soligny’s style, is an early example of Tiffany & Co.’s engagement with Near Eastern and Indian works of art. Also in silver, Fine Estate Inc. is offering a German beverage set, a Russian tea set and service for 12 from Gorham in the Lansdowne pattern and their decorative arts selection includes Herend Rothschild bird porcelain table service all in time for the holidays.

Jewelry and watches will be well represented in this auction with over 165 lots. Highlights include an amethyst, rhodolite garnet and cultured pearl 14K ring (below); an aquamarine, diamond, tsavorite garnet, 18k ring, centering a princess aquamarine highlighted by six round brilliant-cut diamonds; an opal, diamond, 14K gold ring designed in a foliate motif and a 44-inch rope of South Sea pearls with an 18K gold clasp.

The fine wristwatch selection includes a Ulysse Nardin platinum GMT perpetual calendar wristwatch (below); a Patek Philippe moon phase power reserve wristwatch; a Piaget Polo, diamond, 18K wristwatch, Ref 7131 C701; and a Piaget Polo coral, onyx, 18K wristwatch. The pocket watch collection is led by a Gubelin Verithin platinum pocket watch. Also included in this auction are a C.H. Meylan Brassus 18K pocket watch and an Elgin 14K yellow gold pocket watch. There are also numerous women’s watch examples including wrist and pin watches and even a ring watch.

Among the furniture that will be on the block are designer pieces from Michael Taylor Design, a pair of Therien Studio Neoclassical-style console tables, two McGuire Furniture chaise lounges with ottomans and a Drexel Heritage Second Empire-style sideboard. Fine Estate Inc.’s Asian Art offerings include a 19th century large underglaze blue hu vase, a pair of cloisonne enamel vases, a russet celadon jade boulder carving depicting four scholars set in a landscape with pine and pavilions, and a pair of white jade “Dragon” bangles.

Fine Art will also be up for auction including a James Rizzi silkscreen with hand-cut 3-D construction, a John Ford Clymer painting (below), a pastel by Edwin Siegfried and also works by Margaret Keelan, Barton Benes and Johnny Friedlaender.
