ASTI, Italy – Nova Ars will present an interesting design collection of decorative arts of the 20th century – many made in Italy – at an online-only auction Wednesday, April 12. Absentee and Internet bidding will be available through LiveAuctioneers.
More than 100 lots of art glass, ceramics, lighting and furniture by the world’s top designers comprise the catalog.
One of the top lots is a beautiful blown glass vase from the famed Fratelli Toso glasshouse in Murano, circa 1940. The colorful vase (above) stands about 6 3/4 inches high.
Another outstanding piece is an 8 3/4-inch-tall crystal vase by Flavio Poli for Seguso, model 7609, which features a swirl optic (below).
To display such fine pieces a collector should have a Cristal Art glass cabinet. The example offered in the Nova Ars auction (below) dates to the early 1960s and retains its Cristal Art label.
Lighting is always a prominent category at Nova Ars auctions, and this sale features a distinctive Gio Ponti “Candle” wall lamp, circa 1970s.
The sale also features two Maralunga upholstered armchairs designed by Vico Magistretti for Cassina, circa 1970. This is the first armchair produced with a folding backrest.
