AVON, Conn. – Trinity International Auctions has scheduled a Fine Art Auction for Saturday, June 18, 2011, with Internet live bidding via LiveAuctioneers.com. The sale, which will commence at 12 noon Eastern time, consists of important paintings and sculptures from American, Russian and European artists. The selections have come from two private collections.
A diverse mix, the auction offerings feature 19th and 20th-century works, from traditional through cutting-edge contemporary Russian works. Among the special highlights are several “fresh” pieces by the ever-popular David Burliuk. The paintings were sourced from a San Francisco private collection.
An important double-sided piece by Abraham Manievich comprises a still life of flowers in a vase and a verso winter landscape. Also included in the Russian section are works by Lev Bruni, Konstantin Rudakov, E.L. Lissitzky and two prime works on fabric by Tinur Novikov.
A truly outstanding 19th-century American painting byThomas Hicks, (American, 1823-1890) comes with documentation – an article from the October 1847 issue of The Literary World. The article notes that several truly outstanding paintings by American artist Thomas Hicks just arrived from Rome, and of them, “the largest and most valuable [was] a “Shepherd Boy Sorrowing over a Dead Sheep.” This painting, along with works by Andrew Melrose and George McCord are just a few of the exceptional entries in the American section of the auction.
Also to be sold are several very fine 19th-century European paintings by such artists as Johannes Schotel, Simon Von Brakel, Karl Daubigny and Johannes Antonius Canta (Dutch 1816-1888).
The modernist section is very strong, with works by Rolph Scarlett, Agnes Hart, Charles Green Shaw, Leonardo Nierman and Jay McVicker.
Stephen R. Gass, president of Trinity International, commented that he expects the June 18 event to be one of the company’s “strongest auctions to date.”
