CHICAGO – Potter & Potter Auctions will conduct a nearly 700-lot Pop Culture and Collectibles sale to be held on Thursday, March 30, starting at 10 am Central time. Absentee and Internet live bidding will be available through LiveAuctioneers.

Posters promoting key musicians and musical acts from the 1960s appear in the sale lineup, among them Bob Dylan at Philharmonic Hall Only New York Concert Appearance on Saturday, October 31st at 8:30, which carries an estimate of $7,000-$10,000. This first-printing poster – one of the earliest concert posters in Dylan’s career – was produced for one of his most important shows, signaling a transition from war protest music to a more personal sound.

A 1969 concert poster titled Noyd Grafmyre & KOL Am & Fm Presents the Mothers of Invention, The Guess Who & Alice Cooper, is estimated at $3,000-$4,000. Published in Seattle, this concert poster features a portrait of Frank Zappa surrounded by psychedelic imagery, with artwork by John Moehring.

Beatles ephemera is also expected to take the spotlight in this auction; many examples are from the collection of concert organizer and former director of marketing and promotions for VH1, Bo Overlock. An unimpeachable prize is a complete set of four life-size posters of the Beatles, published in London by Fan Foto around 1963. These very rare unbacked posters are based on images taken from the Beatles’ appearance on ABC-TV’s Ed Sullivan Show. They measure approximately 72 by 24in each and are together estimated at $1,000-$2,000.

Props from some of the world’s most celebrated films also headline this sale. Charming in its modesty is Auntie Em’s coffee pot from MGM’s 1939 classic The Wizard of Oz, estimated at $6,000-$8,000. This screen-used gray enamel coffee pot has a hinged lid and is seen in the film’s twister black-and-white sequences; the pot is visible when Dorothy runs through the kitchen searching for her family while the tornado is approaching. The pot is 10in tall and was originally purchased from the 1970 MGM movie prop auction.

The event’s robust selection of comic books includes a circa-1963-1964 collection of The Amazing Spider-Man Volume I, Nos. 2-10, estimated at $3,000-$5,000. All the issues in the lot are ungraded, bagged and boarded. They were written by Stan Lee and feature art by John Duffy and Steve Ditko. This series includes the first appearances of the Vulture, Doctor Octopus, Sandman, Doctor Doom, The Lizard and Electro.

Rounding out the offerings is a Scrooge McDuck Hands Off My Playthings multicolored bronze sculpture by Carl Barks and Bruce Lau. This 15in-tall piece features the miserly bird standing atop a pile of gold coins with cane raised, ready to fight off anyone who comes too close to his money. It is #154 of an edition size of 176 and is estimated at $6,000-$8,000.
