PHILADELPHIA – Kamelot Auctions will hold its first sale of 2012 on Saturday, Feb. 18, at its Philadelphia showroom. The auction will begin at 10 a.m, Eastern, and doors open at 8 a.m. LiveAuctioneers.com will provide Internet live bidding.
To preview during the week, plan to visit on Wednesday, Thursday or Friday, Feb. 15-17, 10 a.m.-5 p.m.
Discerning buyers in the market for great-looking, exceptionally crafted antiques and modern furnishings will discover abundant opportunities to acquire rare and unusual objects of lasting beauty throughout auction of more than 750 lots.
The sale will feature impressive collections of decorative arts, including more than 250 pieces of Quimper French faience. Individual lots of the coveted French pottery will include lamps, wall pockets, decorative sculpture and candlesticks, serving items, dinnerware, urns, miniatures and a variety of single pattern sets. The entire single-owner collection is being offered with no reserves. Among other fine porcelain objects, a pair of 18th-century signed Dutch vases (lot no. 610) bearing winged griffon handles, estimated at $1,000-$2,000, is sure to earn crowning interest.
Copious selections of Asian porcelain, bronze statues, art books, sets of antique books, trendy mid-century modern sculpture and European antiques are scheduled. A fine 19th-century gilt bronze lantern designed with coiling snakes and Aesthetic Movement detail (lot no. 450) will be offered with estimates of $4,000-$6,000, and a remarkable signed Lalique vase (lot no. 582) in opalescent glass with amber patina is estimated between $8,000-$12,000.
Fine art will be strongly represented also. Over 100 antique and 20-century paintings will be sold without reserves, many by noted regional and international artists.
Furniture buyers can anticipate an exciting array of decorative, classic and original dining tables, chairs, settees, consoles, desks, and upholstered pieces in a variety of striking styles. Superior quality antique furniture lots will include a belle epoque giltwood carved center table in the Regency style bearing estimates of $4,000-$6,000 (lot no. 225), and a pair of 19th-century Chippendale-style Portuguese mirrors (lot no. 351). A large Continental table (lot no. 223) of unusual design bears four seated dog figures poised on a platform base supporting a faux specimen marble top (est. $2,000-$3,000).
