WOLCOTTVILLE, Ind. – Strawser Auction Group will hold a four-day antique auction boasting nearly 2,000 lots, including important collections of majolica, Pickard china, World War II collectibles, Fenton glass, and more from May 26-29. Absentee and Internet live bidding will be available through LiveAuctioneers.
The first session, which begins at 3 pm Eastern time on May 26, will feature militaria, including a World War II collection and firearms, as well as toy banks, advertising collectibles, silver, and jewelry. Top lots will include a Fowler Sportsman cast-iron mechanical bank by J. & E. Stevens, estimated at $1,500-$2,000; a Yankee Boy Plug Cut tobacco tin, estimated at $150-$250; and a silver mounted drinking horn with silver deer heads and other figures, made in Germany in 1899, and estimated at $800-$1,200.
The second session, set for May 27 and launching at 3 pm Eastern time, will contain furniture, lighting, Oriental rugs, and more than 300 clocks. Up for bid will be an oil on canvas of sheep in a meadow by Augustine Bonheur (French, 1824-1884), estimated at $1,200-$1,500, and a Handel bronze desk lamp with large lily pad base, estimated at $300-$500.
May 28 marks the third session, which will also start at 3 pm Eastern time, and will feature 437 lots of antique glassware and collectibles, led by a rare Fenton Burmese child’s seven-piece water set signed by Vicki Fielder and estimated at $200-$300; a Mt. Washington peachblow satin coralene vase, estimated at $100-$150; and a Fenton topaz vaseline opalescent epergne, estimated at $80-$120.
The fourth and final session, set for May 29 and beginning at 9 am Eastern time, will be a majolica and ceramics auction, headlined by the Ann and Robert Fromer collection of majolica, plus more than 300 pieces by name brands such as Pickard and R.S. Prussia. Three items in particular are expected to attract much bidder attention.
The first is a George Jones centerpiece modeled as a giraffe and a stag beneath a turquoise bowl decorated with branches and leaves, all emitting from a tree trunk central pedestal. It is the centerpiece for the George Jones Continents compotes of Africa, America, Asia, and Europe, and is estimated at $20,000-$25,000.
The second is a Minton majolica game tureen and cover, with its base modeled as a decorative oval pate mold in yellow ochre and blue, resting on a fixed basketwork tray with rope handles. The cover has the heads of two hares and two ducks, realistically colored and symmetrically arranged on a cobalt glazed dome studded with yellow florettes. The tureen, with some professional repair, should sell for $25,000-$35,000.

The third is a Minton majolica blowfish teapot and cover, modeled as a fantastic fish with a brown spout emerging from its mouth. It is supported on green waves and features a brown seaweed handle with snail, the cover having a spikey dorsal fin. It is estimated at $10,000-$15,000. The charismatic teapot was originally part of the Charles Washburn collection; he used its image on his business card. Later, it entered the Ann and Robert Fromer collection.
Monumental silver-mounted drinking horn, estimated at $800-$1,200
The May 29 session also includes a monumental Vienna porcelain clock with dome, standing 21 in tall and estimated at $3,000-$5,000, as well as a scarce circa-1910 Notre Dame football form pitcher with six matching mugs, each with a pennant flag that reads Notre Dame, made by T. Maddocks & Sons Co., Trenton, N.J., and estimated at $600-$900.
