NEW YORK – ACRIA, the AIDS Community Research Initiative of America, will hold its 14th Annual Holiday Dinner and Art on Wednesday, Dec. 9, 2009 at the Urban Zen Center, Stephan Weiss Studio, in Manhattan. The evening is presented by InStyle Magazine and Urban Zen. Sponsors include Calvin Klein Collection, People magazine, Perelman Family Foundation and The Robert Mapplethorpe Foundation.

Many luminaries from the fine art and design world are expected to attend the event, which will feature an auction of works by some of the most celebrated and talented visionaries from the contemporary art world. Through and including the day of the dinner and art auction, anyone will be able to leave an absentee bid on any lot in the sale by logging on to www.LiveAuctioneers.com.

The artists whose works will be sold to the highest bidder include (alphabetically) John Baldessari, Ross Bleckner, Dale Chihuly, Eric Freeman, Nan Goldin, Robert Mapplethorpe, Ryan McGinness, Julie Mehretu, Herb Ritts, David Salle, Richard Serra, Kiki Smith, Ruud van Empel, Massimo Vitali, and many more. All profits will benefit the programs and services provided by ACRIA.

The dinner, which commences at 8:15 p.m., will be hosted by Ross Bleckner, Bob Colacello, Francisco Costa, Ariel Foxman, Reinaldo and Carolina Herrera; Donna Karan, and Martha Nelson. Cocktails will be served beginning at 7 p.m.

The event will honor the late Claudia Cohen for her generosity and enduring support of ACRIA. Her daughter, Samantha Perelman, will accept an award in her honor.

Prominent members of New York society will be in attendance, among them: Donald Baechler, Liliana Cavendish, Suzanne & Bob Cochran, Muffy and Xavier Flouret; Shelly and Vincent Fremont, Gillian Hearst Simonds, John and Susan Hess; Jane Holzer, Calvin Klein, David Kleinberg, Adam Lippes, Nicole Miller, Ron Perelman, Julian Schnabel, Barry and Sheryl Schwartz; and Bruce Weber.

All proceeds from the evening will benefit ACRIA, a leading HIV research and education organization, and the nation’s recognized authority on the emerging issue of HIV and aging.
