The Man Ray offerings include his iconic 1924 work Le Violon d’Ingres (The Violin of Ingres); Helmut Newton is represented by his masterpiece Big Nude III, Henrietta, Paris, 1980; and Robert Doisneau’s contribution is his 1950 black-and-white Le Baiser de l’hotel de ville (The Kiss by the Hotel de Ville). Absentee and Internet live bidding will be available through LiveAuctioneers.

Leading the highlights is Diane Arbus’s 1964 black-and-white image of Disneyland Castle in California. True to form, Arbus finds the menace and complexity lurking in the famous theme park’s palace of fun by shooting it at night. Versions of this Arbus photograph are in the collections of the J. Paul Getty Museum, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. The offering in the sale was printed in 1979, and it is estimated at $100-$120.

Henri Cartier-Bresson, ‘Cell in a model prison in the U.S.A.,’ est. $100-$120

Equally thought-provoking is an Henri Cartier-Bresson black-and-white photograph taken in a model prison in the United States. Shot in 1975, it shows a closed cell in profile as a person thrusts a fist and an unclad leg between its bars. Printed in 1979, it carries an estimate of $100-$120.

Robert Doisneau, ‘Le Baiser de l'hotel de ville (The Kiss by the Hotel de Ville),’ est. $100-$120

The final highlight is Robert Doisneau’s 1950 black-and-white image Le Baiser de l’hotel de ville (The Kiss by the Hotel de Ville). The much-celebrated photograph became the subject of controversy around the turn of the century when Doisneau revealed he had staged the scene. Its power and popularity remain undiminished, however. The image on offer was printed in 2006 and is estimated at $100-$120.
