Greene & Greene couch, Steinway pianos adorn Abell auction, May 23

Greene & Greene circa 1914 mahogany couch, estimated at $80,000-$120,000

LOS ANGELES – Abell Auction Co. will present an exquisite array of fine art, antiques, 20th century design, and jewelry from prominent Southern California estates at its online-only quarterly auction on May 23 starting at 10 am Pacific time. Absentee and Internet live bidding will be available through LiveAuctioneers.

Leading the sale is a Greene and Greene mahogany couch from the living room of the Robert R. Blacker House. The piece was executed in the workshop of Peter Hall circa 1914, and comes out of an Arcadia, California estate after being purchased at a lawn sale at the Blacker House in the early 1950s.

Other antique and modern furniture highlights include a collection of 18th and 19th century Spanish, English, French, and Italian furniture; a Lalique Cactus table; a Philip and Kelvin Laverne Chan coffee table; and several Steinway & Sons pianos, including a 1917 model M mahogany; a 1927 ebony CD; a 1931 Louis XV style model A grand piano; a 1972 model B ebony; a 1996 Crown Jewel collection kewazinga bubinga finish grand piano; and a 1998 model B ebony.

Platinum and diamond riviere necklace, estimated at $600,000-$700,000

Decorative arts on offer include a first edition collection of books by David Roberts, titled The Holy Land, Syria, Idumea, Arabia, Egypt and Nubia; an Austro-Hungarian silver and gilt metal chess set; a pottery vessel by Magdalene and Michael Frimkess; a Mexican sterling tea and coffee service; a Japanese bronze temple urn; two Mongolian sterling and jade wine pitchers; a Tiffany & Co. sterling tea service; and Buccellati sterling leaf and shell dishes.

Larry Bell, ‘Cube,’ estimated at $8,000-$10,000

The lineup of fne art contains paintings, drawings, and sculptures by Ernie Barnes, Larry Bell, Billy Al Bengston, Franz Arthur Bischoff, Emilio P. Fiaschi, Pierre Eugene Emile Herbert, Joseph Imhoff, William Keith, Edgar Payne, Evgeni Alexandrovich (Eugene) Lanceray, Gustavo Montoya, Grandma Moses (who is also known as Anna Mary Robertson), Dan Namingha, Hanson Puthoff, Robert Riggs, Bill Schenck, Alexander Tikhomirov, and William Wendt.

The Modern and contemporary prints and multiples selection includes works by Alexander Calder, Paul Gauguin, Roy Lichtenstein, Joan Miro, Man Ray, Pierre Auguste Renoir, and Richard Serra.

Patek Philippe stainless steel Nautilus wristwatch, estimated at $80,000-$100,000
