Handcrafted items blanketing Jeffrey S. Evans auction July 14

MOUNT. CRAWFORD, Va. – Jeffrey S. Evans & Associates will conduct the third annual Textile, Costume and Sewing Auction on July 14 beginning at 9:30 a.m. Eastern Time. Absentee and Internet live bidding is available through LiveAuctioneers.
The auction consists of fine offering of 18th- through 20th-century costumes and accessories, some with original family provenance, such as a fine leghorn straw bonnet with original box (above). Information provided by consignor states that this bonnet and bandbox belonged to Anna Moore Dawson (1804-?) of Allegany County, Maryland.
The auction catalog contains more than 90 19- and 20th-century quilts. A fine example is a Shenandoah Valley of Virginia applique album quilt, circa 1860 (below). The hand-stitched quilt has 16 patterned blocks with various floral designs including “President’s Wreath.”
More than 40 18th- and 19th–century samplers are in the 325-lot auction.
Also in the lineup are Shenandoah Valley and other coverlets (below), homespun blankets, Chinese and European textiles, antique lace and sewing implements.
Consignments include material from the collection of Ruth D. Hunter, Richmond, Virginia.; the collection of the late Irene Sarnelle, Staunton, Virginia; deaccessions from the Virginia Quilt Museum and the Museum of Early Southern Decorative Arts (below).
