Heirloom treasures await bidders at Charleston Estate Auctions Nov. 20

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Charleston Estate Auctions will present the November holiday auction, a live online auction on Sunday, Nov. 20, at 1 p.m. Eastern in Mount Pleasant, S.C. The auction offers notable fine art, jewelry and rare items from private Charleston collections – some great gifts ideas for the holidays. Absentee and Internet live bidding will be available through LiveAuctioneers.com.

Auction highlights include a wide selection of European fine art, a Tiffany & Co. 14K gold handbag and cuff links, Steuben glass, exceptional fine art, sterling silver and many more unique items.

The Edwardian-era gold mesh purse by Tiffany & Co. features an etched ornate frame with nine inset sapphires, crowned by a sapphire cabochon thumb push and suspended by a fancy link chain. This rare purse is from a Charleston, S.C., estate and estimated at $8,000-$10,000.

A tanzanite and diamond pendant (below) is the showpiece of the auction. It features a 16.85 carat octagonal step-cut tanzanite set in the center of a custom-made 14K white gold mounting, and is surrounded by a total of 44 pave set, round brilliant-cut diamonds. The bail features a total of 12, pave set, round brilliant cut diamonds. The custom double chain on the piece measures approximately 18 inches and has a 2-inch extender (est. $25,000-$30,000).

A rare original William Melton Halsey 1965 acrylic and watercolor depicts an alley in Morocco. One of Halsey’s travel paintings, the work has a $4,000-$6,000 estimate.

Another highlight is an Art Nouveau 14K gold vanity/jewelry box, marked 585, which is the European mark for 14K gold, with a large arched deep relief shell cameo inserted into the top. The cameo features a classical female bust that is surrounded by carved lily of the valley flowers. Beautifully etched scroll and foliage design encircles box. Possibly Czech or Austrian, the box has an approximate value of $5,000-$7,000.

A 10 1/2-inch hand-blown Cluthra vase by Steuben, shape #8508, is finished in the special Pomona Green and adorned with the early 1930s Steuben opalescent “M” handles. The vase has an approximate value of $2,000-$2,500.
