NEW YORK – Jasper52 will conduct a finely curated Asian antiques and antiquities auction on Wednesday, July 17, offering more than 50 lots of ancient Chinese artifacts, Indian jewelry, impressive Buddha statues and more that create a comprehensive representation of the Asian tradition. Highest expectations are for a 22K gold jadai billai, an Indian hair ornament worn by a woman. The 2 5/8-inch disk was made in Bangalore, Karnataka, in the 19th century and depicts Lord Krishna dancing on a five-headed naga. Bidding starts at $2,800 for this item.

A 16-inch-long saag dowry necklace in 22K repousse gold dates to19th century India. It is composed of gold pendants with lac resin fill (est. $3,500-$4,000).

A 19th century cast bronze tajaur (jar) in the auction is from the tiny nation of Brunie or Sarawak, a state in Malaysia on the island of Borneo. The 20-inch-high jar is decorated with stylized birds, lizards, dragons, lions, fish and floral designs. Brunei craftsmen were famous for casting bronze cannons, kettles and gongs but rarely jars. Tajaur of this quality indicates the wealth and status of the owner (est. $3,500-$4,000).

Dating to China’s Han Dynasty is a pair of polychrome decorated vases with lids (est. $3,500-$4,000).

From the 10th century is a 16½-inch-high carved sandstone Hindu figure of an attendant, which was crafted in Madhya Pradesh in central India (est. $2,000-$2,500).

A nearly 2-foot-tall teakwood figure of Buddha in the auction was carved in the 18th century by Burma’s Shan people. This Buddha has a serene face with eyes lowered and slight smile with almost childlike innocence (est. $3,500-$4,000).
