Italian glass to be sold with no reserve at Palm Beach Modern Auctions, Oct. 9
“The Italian glass is all from one Midwest collector who had a passion for Italian Modern decorative arts, said Wade Terwilliger of Palm Beach Modern Auctions. “That’s what’s exciting about this sale – the man’s passion for what he collected and the fact it is being sold without reserves, which means collectors of all levels have a chance to bid.”
The auction will begin with a Christian Dior designed blown glass decanter in a Scottish tartan design, which was made by Barovier & Toso in 1969. The rare decanter, which has a $5,000-$7,000 estimate, has already seen a flurry of preauction through LiveAuctioneers, said Terwilliger.
The extensive collection of glass includes works by Venini, Archimede Seguso, Alfredo Barbini, Cenedese, Tapio Wirkkala, Kosta Boda and Orrefors.
Additionally, the sale will include pottery examples by Guido Gambone, Marcello Fantoni, Eugenio Pattarino, Grueby, Roseville and Weller; mid-century sculptures by Kafka, Tim Holmes and Albert Leon; and art by Robert Lohman, Paul Zelanski and Roman Cieslewicz.
A large pottery figure standing 15 3/4 inches high by Italian master Eugenio Pattarino has a $500-$700 estimate.
A pair of 1950s starburst sconces of glass and brass by Emil Stejnar of Austria, 11 inches diameter and 6 inches high, has a space-age look and a $200-$300 estimate.
Sculptures include a 1970s Tim Holmes abstract work in mixed metals that stands 19 1/2 inches high and has a $300-$400 estimate.
