Ivory, jade on menu for Carstens Thanksgiving sale Nov. 20

BOCA RATON, Fla. – Carstens Galleries will present its Thanksgiving Week Auction on Tuesday, Nov. 20, commencing at 4 p.m. EST. The sale will feature a choice selection of antiques and fine decorations, as well as magnificent ivory and jadeite sculptures. LiveAuctioneers.com will provide Internet live bidding during the sale.
The star lot is an excellent work by C. Lapini, a celebrated sculptor born in 1848 in Florence. He is known for his excellent genre and group figures. Lot 1366 is titled Sorpresa and signed in Florence in the year 1883.
Other outstanding lots (1418-1424) include a selection of large jadeite sculptures, of high relevance for their quality, size and workmanship. A must-see lot (1175) is a unique carved mammoth tusk supported by an equally impressive carved wood base. The rare fossil is over 75 inches long.
The Oriental and European works of art in ivory in this auction have been chosen for their high quality and beauty. They will surely be of interest to collectors of this art form.
Other offerings among the 470 lots in this auction include European oil paintings, selections of Art Deco and splendid chandeliers, Tina Modotti photographs, rare China export plates, and a beautiful assortment of bronzes and porcelain vases. The list also contains vintage china buffets, commodes and smaller furniture decors from a Palm Beach estate. Toward the end of the auction will be a private collection of more than 20 hand-painted Limoges miniatures of interesting motifs and also in celebration of the millennium.
