NEW YORK – On Monday, Dec. 12, J. Greenstein and Co. will be holding an auction representing antique Judaica from all three Jewish traditions: Ashkenazi, Sephardi and Mizrachi. Absentee and Internet live bidding is available through LiveAuctioneers.

Over 350 items will be auctioned at the company’s main auction house in Cedarhurst, N.Y. Items range from Yemenite manuscripts from the 18th century, to a collection of 10 prints made and signed by the artist Jacob Steinhardt.

The collection also includes a Persian Torah with its original casing, and a Sabbath headdress from Poland. The upcoming auction plans to encompass over 500 years of Jewish history, with authentic examples from each century.

Featured items include:

– A monumental silver Chanukah lamp (above) made in Odessa, Ukraine in 1854. The back plate is decorated with finely spun filigree forming a double headed eagle, flowers and a miniature Torah ark.

– A rare and important parcel gilt Torah shield from Moravia (below), 1757. This tablet form Torah shield with its original suspension chain.

– An early parcel gilt silver Torah crown, Nasielsk, Poland, circa 1800. Its silver base is decorated with alternating stags and lions flanking a crown. The upper band is engraved in Hebrew: “This crown belongs to Abraham, Jacob Issachar’s son from the Nasielsk community.” Nasielsk, a town in the provenance of Warsaw, was home to approximately 1,000 Jews in 1800, where they worshiped in a beautiful wooden synagogue.
