NEW YORK – Jasper52 will present an online auction of beautiful handmade antique and vintage Persian rugs on Tuesday, Feb. 20. A few tapestries and high-quality new rugs fill out the 139-lot auction. Absentee and Internet live bidding is available through LiveAuctioneers.

Antique rugs are highlighted by a traditional Persian Tabriz rug, about 7 by 10 feet, made around the turn of the 20th century. Tabriz rugs were made in and around the city of Tabriz in northwest Persia. Tabriz rugs were usually woven on cotton bases and have wool pile, as is this one (above).

Another antique in the sale is a Chinese Peking Four-Paw Dragon rug (below) that measures about 11 by 14 feet. Though made circa 1880 it displays Art Deco-like design elements.

From the mid-20th century is a fine Persian Isfahan rug (below) having a rare silk foundation. It measures about 11-by-15 feet and is expected to sell for $10,000 or more. Isfahan, the artistic center of Iran, had a reputation for producing magnificent rugs.
