Jasper52 auction salutes Americana, folk art June 4

NEW YORK – More than 500 lots of Americana and folk art will be offered in a Jasper52 online auction on Thursday, June 4. Handcrafted tramp art boxes, collectible vintage signage and detailed wooden frames are just a few of the whimsical treasures offered in this sale. This collection of 19th-20th century rural life will create a unique sense of welcome in any home. Bid absentee or live online exclusively through LiveAuctioneers.

Seven antique weathervanes are offered in the auction including an early 20th century copper vane that depicts a pig (above). The swine measures 26 inches long by 17 inches high and is mounted on a museum stand. The pig will go to market with a $1,300-$1,800 estimate.

Nearly 50 signs will cross the block. Among the more unusual is an antique trade sign advertising “Bathroom Fashions.” The painted double-sided wooden sign (below) is in excellent condition and expected to sell for $3,500-$4,000.

An early 20th century polychrome and carved plaque depicting a spread-winged eagle atop two American flags was in the personal collection of two longtime Missouri dealers who have retired to Texas. The nearly 6-foot-wide plaque carries a $3,000-$3,500 estimate.

A whimsical piece of folk art available is a carved wooden whirligig in the form of an American Indian paddling a canoe. The whirligig dates to the early 20th century. It measures 31 inches long by 12 inches high (est. $1,000-$1,500).

A ship diorama offered in the auction depicts an actual ship, the Pruessen, a five-masted windjammer launched in Germany in 1873. It was the largest sailing ship with a steel hull in the late 1800s. The diorama measures 15¼ by 9¼ inches and is in excellent condition (est. $400-$500).
