NEW YORK – All the colors of magnificent Venice in the form of Murano glass artworks will be presented in a Jasper52 online auction on Wednesday, March 14. Elegant vases, centerpieces, sculptures and jewelry are among the unique treasures in this sale. Absentee and Internet bidding is available through LiveAuctioneers.
Most of the 100 lots in the sale are contemporary pieces done by Italy’s Murano glassworks that have been in operation since the early 20th century. In 1929 Eugenio Ferro and Giovanni Lazzarini founded Ferro Eugenio & Co. to produce artistic glass objects using the refined techniques of Murano. In 1947, after the death of Eugenio Ferro, the glassworks took its current name of Eugenio Ferro & C 1929 Srl.
Several Eugenio Ferro pieces are featured in the auction including an outstanding Mosaico series vase (above) made in 2015 by Amedeo Rosetto. The artist-signed mosaic vase stands nearly 18 inches high and has a $3,400-$3,800 estimate.
Also made by Rosetto for Eugenio Ferro 1929 is a large millefiori pedestal bowl (below). This signed work is expected to sell for more than $3,300.
Francesco Ragazzi, another Eugenio Ferro 1929 master glassmaker, is represented in the auction by a Civetta (owl) sculpture. The 12-inch-tall multicolored bird has a $2,500-$3,000 estimate.
From Vitravetreria Vitra’s line of glass sculpture is a Picasso head issued in 2017. The 8-inch-high work has a $175-$200 estimate.
The fantastic shapes of Murano glass are exhibited in a bottle by Angelo Ballarin of F&M Ballarin. This new work is about 9 ½ inches tall and has a $90-$100 estimate.
For the trophy fisherman, there’s a 20-inch-tall marlin sculpture by Toso Cristiano of Ars Murano that has a $1,500-$1,700 estimate.
The Jasper52 auction will begin Wednesday, March 14 at 8 p.m. Eastern time.
