NEW YORK – On Tuesday, October 4, starting at 9 pm Eastern time, Jasper52 will offer a sale titled Exceptional Antique, Vintage, and Modern Rugs. Absentee and Internet live bidding will be available through LiveAuctioneers.

Its 329 lots contain a dizzying array of fine textiles from Asia, Europe, the Middle East and more. These include an impressive carpet made in Bulgaria in 1920; a Kirman, Lavar carpet from the same year, created in southeast Persia; a circa-1880 Chinese carpet with a cream background and images of flowers and branches; a Samarkand rug from the 1930s with an orange and white motif; a Chinese painting on fabric, at least 150 years old, depicting a family tree; and rectangular rugs, one from Mongolia and another from Tibet, centered on an image of a single, fearsome tiger.

Notable subgroups within the October 4 lineup include a quartet of Galamkari rugs from Central Persia, all dating to 1950 and one featuring an image of a couple outdoors in a flourishing landscape; two Chinese saddle covers, both from the first half of the 20th century and offered as separate lots; a circular Finnish Rya rug dating to 1950 and sporting a pattern that resembles swirling waters; a circa-1850 Ninghsia three-section runner rug from a Tibetan monastery; Art Deco-style rugs woven in India, one with a bold, angular black-and-white pattern; and modern flatweave rugs, also from India, decorated with pleasing abstract motifs.

Highlights among the offerings include a Sarouk carpet made in northern Persia circa 1930 that measures 23ft, 8in long by 11ft, 11in wide. It boasts a red ground and is described as being in “Excellent mint condition.” Its estimate is $12,000-$16,000.

Another strong entry is a circa-1880 Chinese rug with a beige ground covered with pale brown geometric patterns and an intricate blue-and-white border. Measuring 32ft, 2in long by 16ft, 6in wide, it has an estimate of $20,000-$25,000.

Rounding out the highlights is a red, cream, orange and yellow Aubusson carpet woven in 1850 in France. It features a floral decoration at its center as well as strategically placed touches that resemble vines and blossoms. It carries an estimate of $11,000-$15,000.
