Ten lots of mid-century modern furniture are included in the auction, including a Rabbit cocktail table (above) designed by Singapore-based Studio Juju for Living Divani’s 2012 Rabbit and the Tortoise Collection. Shaped like the head of a rabbit, the contoured tabletop is made of 3-millimeter-thick powder-coated steel and is raised on 12-inch-tall legs. The table carries a $900-$1,100 estimate.
More than a dozen lamps are offered in the sale, including a 27-inch-tall table lamp designed by Alessandro Mendini, a prolific and renowned Italian architect and designer. The lamp’s body is made of Opalflex, a flexible, translucent material. Made in Italy, this limited-edition lamp is new/old stock in its original Slamp packaging (est. $350-$400).
Verner Panton (1926-2998) is considered one of Denmark’s most influential 20th-century furniture and interior designers. During his career, he created innovative and futuristic designs in a variety of materials, especially plastics, and in vibrant and exotic colors. An original Vernor Panton fabric panel in a rare 1980s color combination is listed in the auction catalog. Measuring 46 by 25 inches, the panel will look great stretched on a frame, hung on a wall or as a pillow covering (est. $300-$350).
Born in Osaka, Japan in 1937, Kozo Inoue creates silk-screened serigraphs that are representations of items readily found in nature. Three of his signed and titled 10-by-14-inch prints displayed together in a 4-foot-long frame (est. $300-$400). Inouse’s prints can be found in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art Paris, the Royal Library of Belgium, Modern Art Museum of Osaka and the Spencer Museum of Art.
Ted Hebert’s 2003 untitled watercolor pays homage to Andre Yi’s 2002 Chinatownland sculpture in Los Angeles’ Chinatown. The painting captures the hecticness of city life with silhouettes of satellite dishes, TV antennas and utility lines crisscrossing in front of the CHINATOWNLAND sign. Hebert beautifully capture the pinks, oranges and yellows of a Southern California sunset in the background, which creates a stunning contrast to the foreground (est. $700-$800). The artwork measures 6¼ by 18 ¾ inches.
The Jasper52 auction of Mid-century Modern Decorative Art and Design will be conducted Wednesday, Nov. 18, starting at 7 p.m. Eastern time.
