NEW YORK – Mid-Century Modern is celebrated in innovative and stylish designs offered in a Jasper52 online auction on Tuesday, Oct. 16. Clean lines, organic contours and stylish functionality are all present in this specially curated sale. Furniture, lighting, glassware and other home furnishings fill the 151-lot auction catalog dubbed Sleek Designs: The Mid-Century Modern Sale. Absentee and Internet live bidding is available through LiveAuctioneers.

One dozen lots of furniture are included in the auction, led by a pair of Kurt Ostervig for Jason Møbler armchairs (above) in excellent condition. These Danish modern chairs have a top-quality thick red-brown leather that complements the color of the teak wood. The chairs are organically shaped with beautifully curved armrests. Both chairs are numbered; one is the fourth in the edition and the other is number 10 of the edition.

A beautiful example of the minimalistic yet highly functional style of Theo Ruth’s designs is his daybed for Artifort, circa 1950 (below). The rare example in the auction features the original patterned fabric upholstery, which is in excellent condition, as is the foam.

Lighting is a high point of the sale with equal numbers of modern ceiling fixtures, chandeliers and table lamps offered. Cantharelle table lamps by Finnish designer Maija Liisa Komulainen for the Dutch firm RAAK Amsterdam are seldom found, but the Jasper52 auction offers a matching pair of them. Their anodized aluminum finish gives shades and bases a deep, rich sheen. All nine-light sources on each lamp function properly.

The Erik Balslev pendant lamp for Gog & Morup was manufactured in Denmark in 1977.  The hanging lamp of painted aluminum is used, but in very good, authentic condition. It is considered new/old stock, having never been installed.
