MT. CRAWFORD, Va. – Jeffrey S. Evans & Associates will present their 33rd semiannual Americana and Fine Antiques Auction on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 10 and 11. Absentee and Internet bidding is available through LiveAuctioneers.
The event features a fine selection of Native American material from the private collection of noted scholar and craftsman Wallace Gusler of Williamsburg, Va., and also includes objects from other outstanding collections. The auction offers a diverse range of rare and desirable material.
Session I, beginning at 4 p.m. Eastern time on Friday, Nov. 10, will feature an excellent selection of high-grade 17th- to 20th-century American and foreign coins and currency, most from an estate collection; a fine assemblage of antiquarian maps, including many early Virginia-related examples; antiquarian books and manuscripts, including Henkel family manuscript material; Civil War material, other militaria, and antique firearms, including several rare American pistols.
Session II, beginning at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 11, will include our usual fine selection of rare Virginia and other Southern material; an outstanding selection of Native American material; 18th- and 19th-century American formal and country furniture; fine and decorative arts; important Shenandoah Valley folk art and pottery; country accessories; 18th- and 19th-century ceramics, featuring a fine collection of English lusterware, including many unusual forms; coin silver, including many Southern examples; clocks; and a rare music box.
Highlights in the Saturday session include an important American “AJ” cut glass tumbler (circa 1830) with Andrew Jackson sulphide base, an Edward Moran (American, 1823-1903) oil on board historical marine painting, an American folk art cutout sheet-iron automobile weather vane (circa 1900), and a Native American butterfly-form banded-slate banner stone from the Gusler collection.
