MT. CRAWFORD, Va. – Jeffrey S. Evans & Associates will auction a large variety of antique, modern, and contemporary and studio pottery and porcelain Oct. 1. The sale includes everything from a large and fine collection of Royal Bonn from a South Carolina estate to collections of Shelley China from a private Virginia collection and another assembled by the late Lillian “Lil” Marchant of Cape Cod, Mass., to collections of Susie Cooper pottery, Quimper pottery, majolica, R.S. Prussia, Limoges, a small but fine group of occupational shaving mugs, among other offerings.

LiveAuctioneers.com will provide Internet live bidding.

This sale also encompasses the first annual non-date-lined Teapot Extravaganza, showcasing teapots of every size and shape; made variously in China, Japan, France, Germany, Italy and the United States. This section of the sale includes several 18th century teapots, a few 19th century teapots and over 160 20th century examples from a single New York-area private collection, rare Chinese and Chinese Export examples, contemporary examples by artists such as Lidia Buzio, novelty teapots by Paul Cardew and David Bailey, and examples from factories as far-flung as Purple Clay of Yixing China and Irish Belleek, as well as a selection of reference books on the topic.

Regarding the auction, Jeffrey S. Evans & Associates’ ceramic specialist, Jill Fenichell, said, “I’m really thrilled about the variety of goods we’re selling in October. Today’s market is dominated by fresh goods in wonderful condition, and everything we’re selling is fresh. I’m particularly excited about introducing our concept sale, the Teapot Extravaganza—something fun and something new for new collectors.”

Fenichell will host two gallery walks on Sept. 29. At 10:30 a.m. Eastern she will hold an informal discussion of the Shelley wares being offered; and at 3:30 p.m. she will offer a personal view of the teapots being auctioned.
