MT. CRAWFORD, Va. – The Jeffrey S. Evans & Associates Spring Fine & Decorative Arts Auction contains everything from contemporary paperweights and fine jewelry to important American sculpture and midcentury modern material. The large auction, comprising nearly 2,000 lots, will take place during four days: Wednesday, April 19; Thursday, April 20; Friday, April 21; and Saturday, April 22. Absentee and Internet live bidding will be available through LiveAuctioneers.

Wednesday’s session, set for April 19, features material from the collection of Ann Connor C. Jones of Winston-Salem, North Carolina; the collection of Kathy and Dr. Joseph Arvay of Mendham, New Jersey and property deaccessioned by the Mount Vernon Ladies’ Association. The sale’s offerings include silver and jewelry; Asian material of all types, including bronzes, jade carvings and ceramics; decorative accessories; and a collection of fine art, featuring North Carolina artists such as Fran Speight. Among the Day One highlights are a vintage 14K gold figural leaf brooch with a 1.50-carat diamond; a George II British armorial sterling silver hot water kettle or teapot on stand; and a pair of Chinese Export famille rose platters in the Tobacco Leaf pattern. This last is estimated at $1,000-$1,500.

Thursday’s session, taking place April 20, features the paperweight estate collection of Don Eckel of Lancaster, Pennsylvania; objects deaccessioned from the Sandwich Glass Museum of Sandwich, Massachusetts; and material from the Bennington Museum of Bennington, Vermont. The day’s offerings will include antique, vintage and contemporary paperweights from makers such as Baccarat, Clichy, St. Louis, New England, John Deacons, Rick Ayotte, Bob Banford, Charles Kaziun Jr. and Victor Trabucco, as well as a selection of American and European art glass. Highlights for Day Two include a Victor Trabucco (American, b. 1949-) large lampwork studio art glass super magnum paperweight with an estimate of $1,000-$1,500; a Steuben heavy cut art glass covered jar in vibrant amethyst; an antique Baccarat closepack millefiori art glass paperweight; and a Tiffany Studios red iridescent art glass vase.

Friday’s session, scheduled for April 21, features the miniature lighting collection of Gerry and Kathy Turner of Colorado Springs, Colorado. The Turner collection, which includes several ex-Hulsebus examples, features miniature lamps such as Atterbury Swans; an English cameo; various Artichokes, including an amethyst example; and figural forms, including a Santa Claus and a small Skeleton. The day’s offerings will also include a range of 19th- and 20th-century ceramics, as well as an assortment of decorative accessories. Highlights for Day Three include a Thomas Webb & Sons cameo art glass miniature lamp; a hanging cast-iron Firefly miniature triple-arm chandelier lamp; a German hand-painted porcelain coffee pot with a rooster vignette; and a figural Santa Claus miniature lamp.

Saturday’s session, happening April 22, features material from the estate of the renowned sculptor Felix de Weldon, of Newport, Rhode Island and Washington DC, including a group of maquettes relating to the production of a bust of John F. Kennedy; the collection of Ann Connor C. Jones of Winston-Salem, North Carolina; the collection of Kathy and Dr. Joseph Arvay of Mendham, New Jersey; the Don Eckel estate of Lancaster, Pennsylvania; the collection of Williston and Josephine Cofer of Alexandria, Virginia; as well as property deaccessioned by the Mount Vernon Ladies’ Association; the Bennington Museum of Bennington, Vermont; and the Valentine Museum of Richmond, Virginia.

Highlights from Day Four include a Catherine Carter Critcher (American, 1868-1964) still life of nasturtiums in a green case, recently discovered in a Virginia estate and estimated at $5,000-$8,000; a Felix de Weldon (Austrian-American, 1907-2003) original plaster maquette bust of John F. Kennedy, estimated at $8,000-$12,000; and a John Ward (British, 1938-2023) studio pottery stoneware bowl, estimated at $3,000-$5,000.
