DALLAS — Dallas Auction Gallery will hold its spring Fine Jewelry & Asian Art auction on May 5. It will feature a large selection of important jewelry and watches from Texas estates, including that of a prominent Fort Worth patron of the arts. The sale will also include a collection of Chinese antiques from the estate of Wei Yuan Hsueh and Emily Hsueh. Mr. Hsueh was a Chinese government official as Consul to Jamaica and Consul to Germany prior to opening the Oriental Art Shop in Dallas in 1948. Absentee and Internet live bidding will be available through LiveAuctioneers.

Leading the sale will be estate jewelry including many pieces by Andrew Clunn, Cartier, Tiffany, Van Cleef & Arpels, and also David Webb, whose work is represented by a vintage four-strand crystal and diamond necklace set in platinum and 18K white gold and estimated at $15,000-$25,000. Among the Cartier pieces in the sale is a pair of flower-form 18K yellow gold, ruby, and diamond ear clips, estimated at $25,000-$35,000.

Headlining the timepiece selection is a Patek Philippe Nautilus 5711/1A stainless steel watch with a black-blue dial, serial number A384EBC, in like-new, unworn condition. It was produced in 2016 and is offered with its original box, receipt, and related paperwork. It carries an estimate of $100,000-$150,000. Timepieces by Hublot and Rolex also appear in the auction lineup.

Asian art highlights include a large 16th or 17th century celadon porcelain fish bowl, carved to depict a scrolling lotus on its body, and its upper border designed to look like continuous clouds surmounting banana leaves. It carries an estimate of $25,000-$35,000.

Material consigned from the Hsueh estate includes interesting Chinese governmental memorabilia and photographs, such as a photograph of Chinese President Chiang Kai Shek, signed in Chinese to Wei Yuan Hsueh. The lot also includes Hsueh’s passport. The signed photograph appears to date to December 1943 and is estimated at $800-$1,200.
