Fine jewelry takes center stage at J. Garrett auction, April 2-3

DALLAS – A special collection curated by John Phifer Marrs – the noted Southern interior designer known for the New Southern Style – will be sold in an online-only auction taking place April 2 and 3 at J. Garrett Auctioneers. Bidding starts at 10 am Central time both days, and nearly 700 lots will be offered. Absentee and Internet live bidding will be available through LiveAuctioneers.
Marrs’s work has been regularly featured in local and national publications such as Architectural Digest, Traditional Home and Texas Home. He just released his new book, Interiors for Collectors, and will sign copies of it at the April 1 auction preview.
In addition to Marrs’s selections, items from several private estates will also be sold, along with a superb collection of fine jewelry. It includes designers such as David Webb, Tiffany & Co., Piaget, Elizabeth Gage, DeGrisogono and Chanel.

Three standout jewelry pieces certain to excite bidders are a 3.52-carat diamond halo-style ring set in 14K white gold, estimated at $25,000-$35,000; a papillon-style collar necklace in 18K gold filagree with approximately six carats of diamonds, estimated at $15,000-$25,000; and an Elizabeth Gage multi-strand necklace of fluorite beads and diamonds in 18K yellow gold, estimated at $8,000-$18,000.
Italian furniture selections include a 21st-century Italo Valenti bronze faux tusk cocktail table with oval galleried glass on two cast composite resin tusks and trompe l’oeil rope mounts in bronze, estimated at $100-$25,000; and a pair of 20th-century Italian classical-style parquetry commodes, each with inlay of ebony, satinwood, cherry and walnut in geometric patterns.
Representing France is a large 19th-century Louis XVI style-giltwood mirror from the Beaux Arts period, estimated at $100-$25,000. The mirror has a crest and pendant with urn, putti and floral swags, a divided oval frame with cabochon cartouches and beveled mirror plates. Another French treasure on offer is a pair of 20th-century Louis XVI-style giltwood console tables, each with a brown marble D-end top, a blocked skirt with guilloche and garlands, fluted legs and a large flower basket centering the stretcher. The pair carries an estimate of $100-$25,000.
Offerings from Victorian-era England will include a pair of mid-19th century japanned collector cabinets, each with gilt floral sprays and rectangular cases with 14 graduated drawers on stands, estimated at $100-$25,000; and a 19th-century tortoise and abalone sarcophagus-form tea caddy, with restorations to the fitted interior. It, too, has an estimate of $100-$25,000.
Rounding out the list of expected auction highlights is a large painted paper panel in the Summer Harvest pattern by Gracie, depicting a landscape with a tea house, bridge and garden. Its estimate is $100-$25,000.
