BEACHWOOD, Ohio – Neue Auctions’ online-only Winter Fine Antiques & Art auction slated for Saturday, February 19 at 10 am Eastern time, features more than 300 lots of fine antiques and art, including works by Jim Dine, John Hemming Fry, Pablo Picasso, Mark Lancelot Symons, Gary Spinosa, Gretchen Troibner and Nat Koffman. Absentee and Internet live bidding will be available through LiveAuctioneers.

Leading the lots is Palette IV, a 1969 work from Jim Dine’s Four Palettes series. The limited edition, number 72 of 75, consists of a wooden artist’s palette daubed with brightly colored acrylics. It is estimated at $1,500-$2,500.

Fans of Pablo Picasso can bid on an aquatint of a painter and a model from his Sable Mouvant portfolio. Created in 1964, it was published in 1966. It carries an estimate of $2,000-$4,000.

Several mythological subject oil paintings by John Hemming Fry will also be sold, all deaccessed from the Canton Art Institute in Ohio. Chief among them is The Elemental Drift, an oil on canvas that Fry donated to the institute in 1946. The work is estimated at $2,000-$4,000.

The sale also boasts a grouping of Magical Realism works by several different artists, such as the Mark Lancelot Symons work Moving Day, which is estimated at $5,000-$8,000. Symons was an English Symbolist and a regular exhibitor at the Royal Academy. His work alternated between religious subjects, fairy paintings and mystical Symbolist and Surrealist subjects, incorporating his children and home life.

Other Magical Realism works on offer include five paintings by Gretchen Troibner, an artist who was active in the 1980s. Of particular note is the beguiling Strange Woods, which depicts a man asleep in a forest as a girl peeks out from between the trees. It is estimated at $500-$1,000.

A monumental 1928 poster by Charles Gesmar, titled Rags to Riches, should bring $2,000-$4,000. Gesmar was one of the greatest designers of costumes and posters during the golden age of the Paris music hall in the Jazz Age. The poster features French actress and singer Mistinguett. Gesmar traveled with her and created many posters that feature her image.

Nat Koffman is a somewhat underappreciated artist of the Abingdon Square painters. He will be represented in the auction with a work titled Sheepshead Bay, Long Island, estimated at $1,000-$2,000.

Furniture by Louis Majorelle will include a dining table and chairs estimated at $4,000-$7,000, as well as a mahogany and gilt bronze vitrine, possibly by Majorelle, estimated at $4,000-$8,000. Majorelle was a decorator and furniture designer who manufactured his own designs in the French tradition of the ebeniste. He was an outstanding designer of furniture in the Art Nouveau style.
